According to ABC7’s official biography, Dutra particularly enjoys forecasting winter storms. That interest has been especially relevant during his time in Chicago, where winter weather can create challenging forecasting conditions. His work has also taken him into the field to report from storm locations rather than relying exclusively on studio forecasts.

Greg Dutra Salary in 2026
The exact Greg Dutra salary in 2026 has not been publicly confirmed by ABC7 Chicago or by Dutra himself. Television meteorologists’ compensation can depend on factors such as market size, experience, contract terms, broadcasting responsibilities and station ownership.
Some third-party websites have published estimates for Dutra’s salary, but these sources do not provide an official employment contract or verified payroll documentation. One online biography site has listed a broad estimated range of approximately $97,140 to $230,911 per year, while another site gives a much lower and broader estimate of $20,000 to $100,000.
Because these numbers differ substantially, they should not be presented as Dutra’s confirmed salary.
A more accurate way to describe the situation is that Greg Dutra earns a professional television meteorologist’s salary at a major Chicago station, but his exact annual compensation remains private.
His position at ABC7 is significant because Chicago is one of the largest television markets in the United States. However, market size alone does not reveal an individual broadcaster’s contract value.
Greg Dutra Career Journey
Dutra’s broadcasting career developed through several television markets before he arrived in Chicago.
Before joining ABC7, he worked at KDVR-TV in Denver, Colorado, where he served as a weekday morning meteorologist. Denver provided him with experience covering weather across Colorado and building his profile in a major regional television market.
Before his Colorado career, Dutra worked at KWQC-TV in Davenport, Iowa. This experience helped him become familiar with Midwestern weather patterns, which later became valuable when he moved to Chicago.
Earlier in his career, Dutra worked as a meteorologist at WABI-TV in Bangor, Maine. His progression from smaller markets to larger television markets illustrates a common career path within broadcast meteorology.
In August 2019, ABC7 announced that Dutra would join its weather team. He officially began at the station in September 2019 and appeared on weekend mornings.
Greg Dutra at ABC7 Chicago
Dutra’s ABC7 career has developed considerably since his arrival.
When he joined the station, he became part of a prominent Chicago news and weather operation. ABC7 states that he worked as the weekend morning meteorologist until his promotion to the weekend evening position in March 2023.
His current responsibilities include presenting forecasts during the station’s weekend evening newscasts. He has also contributed to weather coverage from locations affected by severe storms.
Recent 2026 ABC7 programming continues to feature Dutra in weather and special coverage. For example, ABC7’s 2026 coverage has included Dutra in Chicago-area weather reporting and special events.
Education and Meteorology Background
Greg Dutra studied atmospheric science at Lyndon State College in Vermont, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Science. ABC7 also notes that he holds a Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association (NWA).
An atmospheric science degree provides the scientific foundation needed for professional forecasting. Meteorologists study subjects such as atmospheric dynamics, weather systems, climate, forecasting techniques and related physical sciences.
Dutra’s educational background therefore closely matches his professional career, allowing him to combine scientific training with television communication.
Greg Dutra’s Weather Forecasting Style
One of the notable parts of Dutra’s career is his interest in winter storms. Chicago’s location in the Midwest means that snow, freezing temperatures, strong winds and severe thunderstorms can all create challenging forecasting situations.
Dutra has reported from storm locations as part of his work. His role is not simply to present temperatures on a screen; television meteorologists also explain what changing weather conditions mean for viewers, including travel, safety and daily activities.
His experience in Maine, Iowa, Colorado and Illinois has exposed him to a broad range of weather environments.
Greg Dutra and His Viral TV Moment
Dutra also became the subject of an amusing viral television moment in 2022.
While appearing on ABC7’s morning broadcast, he discovered that the studio’s weather screen was touchscreen-enabled. During the live segment, he realized that he could move and zoom the map, leading to a spontaneous and humorous exchange with anchor Terrell Brown.
ABC7 later shared the moment online, where it received significant attention. Dutra joked afterward that the feature was not included in his training manual.
Moments like this can make television personalities more relatable because viewers get to see an unscripted side of the person behind the forecast.
Greg Dutra Wife and Family
Dutra has generally kept much of his private life away from the spotlight. Some online biography websites identify his wife as Amber Dutra, although detailed family information is not extensively documented by ABC7’s official biography.
ABC7 has previously shared a lighthearted family-related story involving Dutra and his young daughter. In 2023, the station reported that his daughter was surprised after he shaved his beard for a station promotion.
Because personal information published by unofficial biography websites can sometimes be inconsistent, readers should distinguish between information confirmed by reputable sources and details repeated across secondary websites.
Greg Dutra Age and Birthday
Greg Dutra’s exact date of birth and age are not prominently disclosed in his official ABC7 biography. As a result, an exact age should not be stated as a confirmed fact unless supported by a reliable primary source.
This is common among television professionals who maintain a relatively private personal life. His educational and professional history, however, is publicly documented through ABC7 and other industry sources.
Greg Dutra Net Worth
Another frequently searched topic is Greg Dutra’s net worth. However, there is no publicly verified financial statement establishing his current net worth.
Third-party websites publish various estimates, but these figures can differ significantly and may be based on assumptions about salary, career length, investments and other potential income sources.
For that reason, it is more responsible to say that Dutra’s primary publicly known professional income comes from his work as a television meteorologist, while his total personal wealth is private.
What Is Greg Dutra Doing in 2026?
In 2026, Greg Dutra remains associated with ABC7 Chicago’s weather coverage. The station’s official biography identifies him as its weekend evening meteorologist, and recent ABC7 material continues to feature him in Chicago weather reporting.
His continuing presence on ABC7 demonstrates the progression of a career that began in smaller television markets and eventually brought him to one of America’s major media markets.
His 2026 work includes weather forecasting, severe-weather coverage and appearances connected with ABC7’s broader programming.
Final Thoughts on Greg Dutra Salary
The search term “Greg Dutra salary” is popular because viewers naturally want to know how much successful television meteorologists earn. However, his exact salary is not publicly disclosed.
Available third-party estimates vary widely, so they should be considered unofficial rather than confirmed figures. What can be verified is that Dutra has built a substantial broadcasting career, working in Maine, Iowa, Colorado and eventually Chicago.
He joined ABC7 Chicago in 2019, moved from weekend mornings to weekend evenings in 2023, and continues to work as a weekend evening meteorologist in 2026. His B.S. in Atmospheric Science and National Weather Association recognition also reflect his formal meteorological background.
For readers researching Greg Dutra salary, biography, age, wife, career, education, net worth and ABC7 Chicago, the most reliable approach is to separate confirmed professional information from estimates published by third-party websites. As of 2026, his career at ABC7 remains the clearest publicly documented part of his professional profile.
